Members can nominate a candidate for office by submitting a petition, signed by 25 members, with written acceptance by the nominee. The petition and acceptance letter should be submitted to Brian Rimbo by April 8th. Candidates must be a society member for one year prior to taking office on July 1, 2009. Current chapter officers, listed in About Us, would be happy to discuss the responsibilities and rewards of their position with you.

Hispanic Worker Training
Presentation by Mery Sennett, President of Ideal Safety Communications
This seminar presents issues and findings about Hispanic workforce training. You will learn about techniques that worked with over 1000 trainees. These techniques, which have been very effective in various manufacturing environments, can be applied to your own training programs in any work environment. Literature will be reviewed, along with information from a case study involving bilingual courses in different subjects offered in the manufacturing industry. The case study shows that breaking barriers between cultures and focusing on strengths creates synergy, and this synergy helps the Hispanic workforce internalize learning. It is building a genuine relationship that fosters an internalized learning experience.
Our speaker, Mery Sennett, is President of Ideal Safety Communication, providing bilingual (Spanish / English) safety training and consulting. Mery is an authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer for the General Industry, and has more than 18 years of Health and Safety experience in manufacturing and in contract research and development environments. Her experience ranges from creating safety and environmental compliance manuals to implementing and delivering training. She brings to the business her educational background, experience, and multilevel background in industry. Fire Protection: Control Your Own Destiny
Why You Should Not Rely on FP Contractors and AHJ's for Advice and Requrements
Presentation by Tom Miller, PE
Pat Genovese, Three Rivers Chapter 2nd VP, has secured an excellent speaker for our October breakfast meeting. Tom Miller is a graduate from the IIT Fire Protection Engineering Program, Registered Professional Engineer, Certified Fire Instructor, and former Lieutenant on the Glenn Ellyn Fire Department. He is currently working for the second largest Fire Protection Engineering Consultant firm in the world, Hughes Associates.
Tom will explain the Fire Protection systems at two facilities, and discuss deficiencies in associated contractor and insurance services. The first example involves a manufacturing and storage facility with bulk and rack storage of flammable and combustible liquids, and blending of same. The second example involves an operation that takes in scrap foam cushioning and makes it into carpet foam padding.
Registration will begin at 7 am, followed by a breakfast buffet. Tom will begin speaking around 7:30 am. Members with a valid email address should have received an eVite. Watch your inbox for the October newsletter and a chance to win a free chapter seminar!
